Welcome To Orato.com

Orato.com is an entirely new kind of media organization, specializing in grassroots citizen journalism. It's a place for newsmakers and ordinary people to tell their stories in their own words and a global community where readers can interact with writers and respond to stories with their own comments.

Orato.com correspondents tell stories in a first person voice. Unlike in traditional journalism, where "I" is a dirty word and subjectivity is suspect, Orato.com actually requires the "I" and the personal perspective behind the story. The result is the story in its rawest form. We get to the heart of the story, literally.

While many news organizations are content to talk about global issues, Orato.com is dedicated to delivering the voice of the people living them. Many of our subjects have told their stories to the traditional players, like CNN and Fox News, and without fail, they always tell us our coverage came the closest to the truth. That's because Orato.com subjects always get the final cut.

Being an editor of a citizen journalism web site is different than being the editor of a newspaper. Most year-old newspapers are lining the bottoms of bird cages, but on Orato.com, it's all right now and the stories continue to travel on the Internet through word of mouth and link sharing. While mainstream news is lumbering around in satellite trucks, toting 40-pound Betacams, Orato.com correspondents are everywhere, and some of the places they get to are truly remote, strange and extraordinary. Orato.com is not trying to replace traditional media. It just happens to provide a voice that traditional media cannot.

Since Orato.com's launch in 2006, we have managed to capture the world's attention and imagination with our pioneering, unfiltered coverage in the words of people living the events that make headlines. Here, you can peruse our Press Release Archives and articles about us and citizen journalism.
